Garden Chairs – general Ramblings

It may seem odd that I find garden chairs interesting enough to write about, however after going through three sets of chairs in one year whilst playing football in the garden, I definitely have something to write about!

What never ceases to amaze me, is the fact that garden chairs always seem to break, no matter how much you spent on them! The first set I bought were cheap plastic ones and to be fair they didn’t actually break, they just turned a funny yellow colour.

The second set were metal-framed and the hinges broke on them after just one month. Now I have a wooden set so hopefully they’ll last a bit longer!

Gazebos help me to save money

Summer is once again just around the corner, a glorious time of beaches, football in the park and of course, dinner parties. At least this was the usual pattern until last year where we spent many of our evenings in open-air restaurants with our friends.

To be honest, I’m still paying off the credit cards following that restaurant-happy summer. We enjoyed ourselves, but it certainly wasn’t worth the debt I saddled myself with.

This year I’m going to look at gazebos, as having a party in the garden will be far cheaper and hopefully, just as much fun. I really need to think about saving money this year as I need a holiday!

Cheap Perfumes becoming big business

As the global economic downturn continues to bite, people are becoming more aware of how they spend their money. This doesn’t necessarily mean they’re spending less, in fact during times of doom and gloom people buy things or attend sporting events to make themselves feel better.

It does mean that retailers are having to work harder to win customers over. Price-savvy shoppers are now completing more of their purchases online in an effort to cut the cost of everyday items. Cheap perfumes for example, are big business at the moment.

For retailers aiming to sell more wares, online shopping is the way to go.

Perfumes make the ideal Gifts

Buying gifts for friends, family and loved ones should be very straightforward; I mean, you know the person who you’re buying for pretty well don’t you?

The reality is that knowing that person particularly well can actually make it more difficult to buy them a gift, as you naturally discount many options as you know they won’t like them!

Always near the top of every list are perfumes, so if you’re running short of ideas why not buy her a present that she’ll really appreciate. From florals to modern, to sporty zing. All manner of perfumes are available so you will no doubt find one to her liking!

Get rid of rats – how a local entertainment centre did it

A local entertainment centre in Wigan, Lancashire has reopened following an infestation of rats at the facility.

The centre hosts many sports tournaments including badminton, table tennis and gymnastics and has an excellent cleanliness record. Staff were therefore shocked to find rats on the site and immediately called a local pest control firm.

If you have a similar problem and need to get rid of rats from your home or business premises, it is almost impossible to do without the help of a professional exterminator. If you discover pests, rats in particular, we strongly advise you to contact a pest control specialist.

Cockroaches cleared from local leisure centre

The Ramsden Leisure Centre in Derby has finally reopened following the discovery of a cockroach infestation in the kitchen area of the building. The Centre was closed for over four weeks while the infestation was being cleared by a local cockroach exterminator.

Local residents are thrilled that the centre is open again. Many parents in the area send their children to sports clubs at the facility, and the closure has caused league matches and tournaments to be cancelled.

Cockroaches are known to inhabit kitchen areas due to the warmer temperatures and availability of food.

Tweed Clothing from the comfort of my own home!

I acquired an obsession for tweed clothing about five years ago following a sailing holiday to Loch Lomond in Scotland. Whilst we were there I bought a lot of clothing including quite a few tweeds, and ever since then I’ve always been on the lookout for more.

I didn’t realise however that you can actually buy tweed clothing online. Rather than having to wait until our next Scottish holiday, I can now buy at my leisure, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week!

I’m not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing, probably bad as far as my bank balance is concerned!

Scottish Country Clothing I Like

There are many things in life that I like; snowboarding, documentaries and Ben & Jerry’s ice cream for example. These are things I indulge in at every opportunity, and in excess if I can get away with it!

Following a recent trip to Fort William, close to the West coast of Scotland, I found something else I like, Scottish country clothing.

Being a skiing destination, Fort William was laden with specialist clothing shops mostly selling skis, hiking gear and climbing equipment. There are however plenty of other shops that sell all manner of things. I’ll be going back again to buy some more country clothing I think!

Ladies Tweed helped in new Environment

Having always been a city girl, moving to the country was a pretty major culture shock as you can imaging. My husband and I made friends quickly enough, but I never quite felt that we fitted in.

I spoke with one of my new friends about how I was feeling. Naturally she told me that everything was fine, but she suggested that if I felt a little out of place, that maybe I should dispense with all the ‘city’ designer labels

It was time to buy some proper country clothes. Thankfully there was a shop local to us that sold ladies tweed clothing and horse riding gear. A little over two hours later, I emerged a proper country lady!

Clothing Scottish Style

All nationalities are subject to a certain amount of stereotyping, whether it is the way they talk, their personalities or the way they dress. Never is this more prevalent than in Scotland.

What many people won’t realise however, is that there is more to Scotland than haggis, whisky, kilts and football. Whilst these are readily available in Scotland, the majority of outlets target tourists wanting to buy some form of memorabilia, rather than serving the requirements of the local people.

The clothing Scottish people actually wear varies as much as any other country in the world. Traditional dress is worn more for special occasions, so day to day it’s off to Primark and JJB Sports like the rest of us!
